Not to be mistaken with the tart pastel colored rolled candy that we remember from our American youth, Nestle Smarties are a favourite (See that? I used the Canadian/British spelling) of our British and Candian friends.
Nestle Smarties are a candy covered chocolate candies that have been around for a heck of a long time. Smarties have been around since at least 1882! These candies are oblate shaped (not round, not oval, not even a sphere) chocolate "beans". Originally made by Rowntree they were marketed as just that, "Chocolate Beans", then "Smarties Chocolate Beans" in 1977.
Nestle has been making them in Canada since 1918 but their largest manufacturing facility is based in Germany, supporting the UK demand.
Unlike the American M&M, Smarties have more variety, coming in 8 different colors and are packaged in a cardboard box in a hexagonal shape. This is the variety we carry in our Dallas Candy Shop.
These are a great addition to our British Candy Section .. seen in the center on the third shelf. Stop by and get smarter!

Annabelle's BIG HUNK Bar .. Who doesn't love a Big Hunk?
Who doesn't love a Big Hunk? A generous portion of chewy, honey-sweetened nougat filled with whole roasted peanuts.
Anyways, on to the candy. What I did learn about our Nostalgic Candy Friend, is that BIG HUNK is true to its name. BIG HUNK is one of the few candy bar items on the market today with very low fat content and qualifies as a "LOW FAT" item, just 3 grams of fat for a generous 2-oz bar.
Big Hunk is predominately distributed from the West Coast to Texas. Acquired by Annabelle's Candy back in 1970 from Golden Nugget Candy Company, Big Hunk has maintained it's loyal following since the early 1950's.
Anabelle's Candy also manufactures the Look! Bar, Abba-Zaba, Rocky Road Bar and U-No Bars. I'm happy to say that we carry all of these candy bars in our Candy Shop here in Dallas (Carrollton).

While looking for information on the Big Hunk bar, I accidentally typed in Big Hung bar....THAT was a fatal error on my part. I really need to slow down and type more slowly, and accurately. Yipes.

Pearson's Bun Bars, Nut Goodies, Nut Rolls
We just can't stop adding new stuff to our Candy Store here in Dallas. This weeks new add's are the Pearson's Nut Goodie Bar, The Bun Bar in Vanilla & Caramel & the Nut Roll. That's right candy fans.. were nuts.
First lets talk about the Nut Goodie. A Nut Goodie is made of milk chocolate and nut clusters, weighing in at 1.75 oz of Nut Goodie-ness. Introduced to the world in 1912, its a cluster of real milk chocolate and nuts with a maple favored center. Those aren't just any peanuts, they are fresh, unsalted Virginia peanuts too.
Lets move the discussion on to the Buns. Bun Caramel & Bun Vanilla. Bun's are nut and milk chocolate patty filled with a white fudge/fondant (vanilla or maple) or caramel. This bar was originally made by the Wayne Bun Candy Company back in the 1920s. The Bun Bar was bought by Clark and then later sold to Pearsons in 1998. Same as above, these are made with fresh unsalted Virginia nuts and real milk chocolate.

We also brought in the Pearson's Salted Nut Roll. While Pearson's cant be known for their catchy product names, they are known for the use of real milk chocolate and (here we go again) fresh unsalted Virginia peanuts. The Salted Nut Roll is a creamy nougat center, surrounded by caramel and rolled in those nuts.
We got these in Wednesday of this week for the first time so if your a fan, look no further, the nuts stop here at Blooms Candy Store in Carrollton (Dallas).

Nostalgic Candy - Razzles
First it's Candy, Then it's Gum!
Little Razzles are so much FUN!
Now this is a candy that I relate to. I remember peddling my bicycle up to the market to return some bottles (I'm originally from Michigan, home of the 10 cent deposit on cans & bottles.) and get some Razzles, Blow Pops and a soda. I would eat the Razzles in quick succession creating a giant wad of gum reminiscent of baseball players wad of tobacco. From there, my jaw would ache and sweet childhood memories were formed.
Morphing from a tasty, fruit-flavored candy into an equally tasty and chewable piece of gum, Razzles offers a hybrid of confectionary treats in every round, bite-sized tablet.

Introduced in 1966, it has become an American confectionary favorite, especially popular with children who appreciate the candy-gum transformation that their chewing produces.
Offered originally in just raspberry, Razzles today are available in a variety of multi-flavored packs, including Razzles (Blaze'n Blueberry, Gushin' Grape, Luscious Lemon, Razzle Raspberry, and Tangerine Orange); Sour Razzles (Blue Raspberry, Cherry, Lemon, Lime, and Orange); and Tropical Razzles (Kiwi-Lime, Pineapple, Strawberry-Bana, Tangerine, and Tropical Punch).
We carry the regular Razzles and the Tropical Razzles currently. However, if we get requests for it we can also add the Sour Razzles to Candy Store inventory.
Stop by Blooms Candy Shop and feel free to consume the whole package at once so you too can re-create that jaw-locking enjoyment withe Razzles.

Cherry Mash
Made since 1918, Cherry Mash was once the best selling candy bar in the country. Now, Cherry Mash is still the best selling cherry flavored candy bar in the country. The candy consists of a soft cherry flavored center containing maraschino cherries and covered in a mix of chopped roasted peanuts and chocolate coating.
Cherry Mash was originally called Cherry Chase, Cherry Chaser and then finally Cherry Mash as we know it. Its made by Chase Candy Company in their factory in St Joseph, Missouri. It can be found in the Midwest in grocery and convenience stores or right here in Dallas, at Blooms Candy Shop.
Heck, you can even follow Cherry Mash on Facebook, here. While your at it, you should follow Blooms Candy Shop too!

Chick-O-Stick Comes to Carrollton
As a nostalgic candy store in the Dallas area we try to keep up with the stuff that you can’t necessarily find anywhere else.
The Chick-O-Stick is a candy produced by Atkinson Candy Company, and has been in manufacture since the Great Depression. Atkinson is right here in Texas so you can happily chew your Chick-O-Stick and support the local Texas economy too! Chick-O-Sticks are a peanut butter and toasted coconut candy. For those that are watching their figures, they don’t contain any Trans Fat! Atkinson Candy does manufacture a sugar-free variety but we currently do not carry that version.
Dusted with ground coconut this delicious orange stick is honeycombed with peanut butter inside. The candy is dry and brittle and when eaten, can be quite crumbly. But hey, all good things take some effort!
Chick-O-Stick got its name when inter-company messages referred to the candy as “resembling fried chicken”. The company founder one day and it just stuck.
We carry the larger stick as shown in the photo above that is .7 oz and the smaller version that is .36 oz.
